Spree

How many people would be happy standing in the rain at midnight?

This weekend we took a load of our young people to Spree, a camp for 8-14 year olds in Taunton, and on the second night it rained. Not particularly hard, but it was the sort of windy rain that just makes you feel really cold and makes tents look like they are about to fall down. Well one of the tents did, or at least it lost a guy rope, which meant that the rain was beginning to seep through. So we had one boy whose side of the tent was likley to get wet and nowhere for him to sleep, and two more who were refusing to go to bed for ever-changing reasons. But I enjoyed every second.

It's just occured to me why that was. I thought it was mabye because I love working with kids, but I've done things with kids that were more fun than standing in late night wind and rain. Perhaps it's because I like to solve problems, but Joe fixed the tent, Adam got the boys to bed and Nai found an alternate sleeping arrangement, and besides, I don't really like solving problems.

No. The real reason was that God was moving in that place. In the evening meeting before hand, a large number of Kids had responded for the first time, and I don't think I had felt the presence of God in such a strong way ever before. You just can't come out of that and have a miserable evening, no matter what the weather, faulty tents or stubborn Kids throw at you.

The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
